Basketball famous player star ever!

The extremely popular Kobe Bryant was impressed with the Los Angeles Lakers’ 53-minute effort in last night’s 110-109 overtime victory against the Celtics at TD Banknorth Garden.

The only player missing from Bryant’s glowing flow of accolades was himself.

Indeed, after scoring a Madison Square Garden-record 61 points against the Knicks on Monday and 36 against Toronto on Wednesday, the talented Kobe shot an uninspired 10-of-29 from the floor for 26 points against the Celts. The guard did hit 4-of-6 treys in the fourth quarter to salvage a modicum of self-satisfaction.

“I shot the ball like crap for three-and-a-half quarters,” Bryant noticed. “It’s funny, but that’s how the clash goes. You miss 15-footers all night and suddenly you start knocking down 25-footers. That’s what happened to me. I know at the time I have clashs like this from experience, down the stretch those long shots tend to fall and the easy ones don’t.

“It’s just weird, I don’t know why that happens.”

As we know, the Lakers are now 2-0 against the squad that humiliated them in clash 6 of the NBA Finals to clinch the title last June. Both triumphs were significant because they squelched extended winning streaks by the Celtics. The C’s had won 19 in a row before losing 92-83 at Staples Center on Christmas. The Celts had won 12 straight before last night.

It’s important to say that Bryant understands that besting the Celtics at the Garden on a frigid February night doesn’t make up for last season, but he did realize a small sense of satisfaction.

“Just coming down the same streets and being in the same hotel, it all came back,” Bryant expressed. “I didn’t get to sleep last night until about 6 o’clock this morning because I was up thinking about the clash. I remember being in this position and thinking about my squadmates. How would they respond and would they be ready?

“I was very pleased to see the effort and how much guys wanted it.”

Lakers coach Phil Jackson counts on Bryant to contain Celts point guard Rajon Rondo [stats] in these clashs. The two engaged in a lot of give-and-take that eventually got out of hand at 9:01 of the third quarter. Both players were issued technical fouls at the time it looked like their dispute would grow beyond verbal jabs.

“There was a little talking back and forth, a little bumping and hitting, and it was good,” Bryant expressed. “Bring it on, that’s the statement I wanted to send, and if it was worth me getting a technical foul because of it so be it.”

Duck Egg Char Kuay Teow, Bukit Mertajam

Bukit Mertajam is a place I hardly venture into because the highlight of Penang is the island, or so I thought. A recent pit stop on the mainland allowed me to explore the many food delights Bukit Mertajam had to offer and I even revisited an old favourite – duck egg char kuay teow.

The stall is located next to the Bukit Mertajam taxi station and opens from 8pm onwards. Often, the wait can be long especially when there’s a queue. I hate it when people ‘tapau’ more than 10 packets of this char kuay teow in one order as that only meant I had to wait even longer for mine to arrive.

I don’t speak a word of Hokkien, but managed to order two plates of duck egg char kuay teow with an additional fried duck egg on top. Not sure how much a plate cost these days but I paid RM11 for 2 large plates with extra egg and a cup of very diluted herbal tea.

The char kuay teow was as good as I remembered it to be. This was wetter than the usual char kuay teow you get in Penang island, but packs a wallop of wok hei. The noodles were smooth, thoroughly seasoned with special black sauce and came with plenty of cockles and crunchy bean sprouts. I would have preferred slightly larger prawns but that’s just a small issue.

The runny yolk of the fried duck egg gave a touch of creaminess to the already rich kuay teow. Seriously good stuff! You just need to ignore the cholesterol police barking at the back of your conscience and schedule a detox session the next day.

I tried to takeaway a packet of this once and the noodles were still tasty when I ate it in KL. Of course, nothing beats eating it on the spot. So if you’re ever in Bukit Mertajam at night, you know what to eat!

Kuala Terengganu Chinatown Travel

Terengganu’s Kampung Cina (Chinatown) or Teng Lang Po, has existed for more than 300 years and it stands out compared to other similar settlements because of its aged buildings that showcase a mixture of Chinese, Malay, Arabic and Thai architecture.

Many of the buildings (mostly shophouses) have undergone a restoration or beautification programme to increase its appeal to visitors, but great care has been taken to preserve its heritage value.

Kampung Cina is home to ancient temples like Ho Ann Kiong and Tien Hou Kong that was built in 1801 and 1896 respectively.

One other landmark that goes back to the 19th century is the Low Tiey water well that was built in 1875. It still exists today, supplying clean water for residents in the area, and is one of the more popular attractions.

Kampung Cina is also known for its local delicacies. Among the food items one can find here are the unique roti paong, Durian cake, Pulut ‘Dipa’ and the white keropok lekor, which is made out of Wolf Herring or ikan parang.

Newer attractions include an esplanade and a scenic bridge, expanding the area of interest for tourists.
